Important results from the project
The purpose of this project was to explore the possibility of expanding existing business within remanufacturing and restoration of parts from personal vehicles to also include remanufacturing of parts for use in whole new applications. The results show that there is great potential in expanding this remanufacturing business. For a number of developed product examples the economic and environmental potential are high. A decision to continue explore this new innovative business has been taken.
Expected long term effects
The project resulted in a number of product prototypes along with examples of branding and marketing strategies and a business model draft. For the most promising products a test series of products will probably now be manufactured and tested on the market. A successful test will likely result in increased employment needs, increased revenues and increased environmental benefits.
Approach and implementation
The project was carried out in close cooperation with Jönköpings Bildemontering, Chalmers Industriteknik and BOID. The first part of the project largely consisted of dismantling and identification of potential products. After that, concept and prototype development activities were conducted in parallel with development and evaluation of e.g. business models, manufacturing methods and economic and environmental performance.
