Purpose and goal
The project REEL is part of an overall mission that aims to significantly reduce CO2, noise, PM and gas emissions by electrifying regional road transport. The project focused on conducting demonstrations of regional electrified logistics systems by developing concepts, building sub-systems and operating logistics flows for a period of one year. In parallel with the operation, an iterative development has taken place and results have been obtained as a basis for developing future interoperable system architectures, interfaces and regulations.
Expected results and effects
REEL´s project approach with both vertical and horizontal work packages has worked well in the work of initiating competing subsystem development & at the same time pursuing general issues regarding interoperability & policy development. Within the project, 3 different electrified logistics applications have been demonstrated, experience has been gained regarding the necessary functionality of the system & its parts, which has had consequences that subsystems have been redesigned and modified during the work and communicated to national and international stakeholders.
Planned approach and implementation
The REEL project has been structured in an innovative way with a total of four different work packages, two of which are vertical, where competitive information is not shared and first disseminated to the horizontal work packages after filtering and aggregation by a trustee function. Within the vertical work packages, OEMs have worked together with logistics operators to evaluate the subsystems in actual operation. Within the horizontal work packages, joint activities have been carried out between all actors to develop a basis for system development.
