Project duration April 2016 - January 2019
Status Completed
Venture Eurostars

Purpose and goal

The main project goal has been to develop a software tool-set that provides time-critical, predictable and reliable communication for automotive applications in heterogeneous systems and heterogeneous networks. The software tools developed include an in-vehicle video communication tool, a back-end server infrastructure for live video playback and recorded video clip management, simulation tools for video and other time-sensitive communication, and a hypervisor-based in-vehicle run time environment for time-critical automotive applications.

Expected results and effects

The project has resulted in a number of software tools to predict, simulate, test and support real-time communication in heterogeneous vehicular networks. The tool set allows SMEs and larger industry to design, develop and evaluate time-critical applications such as advanced safety systems and autonomous vehicles. Support for time-sensitive vehicular communication, including video communication, is very important for the development of next generation vehicles that will be enabled by emerging vehicular communication infrastructures (including 5G and ITS G5).

Planned approach and implementation

The project has been implemented with the structure of clear work packages and with clear deliverables from each work package. Every two months, a project meeting was held with all project partners where the project´s general and specific status was discussed. In addition, during the project´s lifetime, five FTF meetings have been held at the project level, where each work package has been presented with its results. In addition, within each work package, several work meetings have been held.
