Purpose and goal

The goal of the project was to develop a tool that automatically optimizes semantic searches within the patent domain for a specific text without manual intervention. This will support inventors and companies to use the vast amount of technology knowledge available in patents. In this project, unique technology has been researched which makes experts more effective and supports novices in patent searches. The goal was also that academic research would be implemented in a product. Cooperation with MNCs as well as patent management systems began already during the project.

Expected results and effects

The project has generated advances in research and attracted a vast interest among customers through continuous dissemination. The project has already led to 4 published articles and demonstrated the improvement of search results within the patent domain. The project and its results have been presented at Patinfo 2016 Ilmenau, CIKM 2016 Indianapolis, EPOPIC 2016 Madrid and ACL 2017 Vancouver. Three workshops have been arranged with patent offices and companies leading to collaborations. Uppdragshuset plan at least two releases based on the outcome of this project

Planned approach and implementation

The project had been committed to working agile in order to control the direction based on results and customer benefits. Physical meetings and online meetings enabled continuous follow-up of results within the team. Early meetings and workshops with customers gave user-based evaluation of project results. Active participation in testing and discussions about future implementation by customers contributed a lot to development based on the right scenarios. These scenarios provided us the framework for performance based on users to enable a product within the project frames.
