R&D investments in Swedish industry

Purpose and goal

The project aims to understand the driving forces and conditions for business R&D-investments in Sweden. In the project, an R&D barometer is produced, as a basis for analysis and development of policy for strengthened conditions and increased investments for business. The R&D barometer is instrumental for designing evidence-based policy proposals to increase business conditions for R&D in the country, and Sweden´s attractiveness for knowledge-intensive activities.

Expected effects and result

The results include obtaining opinions from R&D managers in knowledge-intensive companies in Sweden, in order to develop policy proposals. Effects are that Swedish politicians receive evidence-based knowledge to strengthen the face of increasing global competition and conditions for R&D-activities in Sweden.

Planned approach and implementation

The plan is to come up with a set of important questions for R&D managers, select R&D-intensive companies of various sizes, send out questionnaires, ensure a good response rate, conduct in-depth interviews, analyze results, compile R&D barometer report as well as conducting seminar at IVA, with the participation of political actors, companies and from civil society, to give arguments to the political system to strengthen the conditions in Sweden.
