Call Impact Innovation: Resilient metals and minerals supply for strengthened preparedness

Purpose and goal

The project´s aim is to strengthen the metal and mineral industry´s ability to manage personnel vulnerability in times of crisis and war. The goal is to increase knowledge about how mobilization and personnel loss affect critical functions, production and deliveries in interconnected operations. The project will thereby strengthen the preparedness, organizational resilience and ability of companies and the industry to maintain the supply of critical metals and minerals.

Expected effects and result

The project will deliver validated mapping of critical skills and personnel vulnerabilities, together with analyses of operational impacts and supply-chain dependencies. Companies will gain tested preparedness scenarios and strategies, while the wider industry will receive a transferable methodology for scenario-based analysis. Expected effects include better decision-making, clearer priorities and reduced vulnerability to personnel loss.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is being implemented by Luleå University of Technology in close collaboration with Boliden and BDX. First, personnel, skills and possible failures in critical functions are mapped. Then, the consequences for the business and dependencies between actors are analyzed. The results are validated in company-specific seminars and used to develop and test scenarios. Joint synthesis, project meetings and reference group meetings support coordination, anchoring, learning and dissemination.
