Prototypes for an IoT-based service model for elevators

Reference number
Coordinator Sicada AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 300 000
Project duration November 2017 - June 2018
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The project further elaborates on the previous pilot for an IoT-based monitoring module in the elevator´s control system. Today, elevators are reported by telephone and the project aims to find a solution where errors can be detected automatically and examined remotely for a more efficient service. The main goal is to verify the solution by prototyping. Prototypes have been developed alongside a sustainable and cost-effective installation model along with an advanced software platform where the elevator companies can view relevant elevator information/statistics and status.

Expected results and effects

Elevator companies should be able to follow fault statistics of the connected elevators and seamlessly receive fault reports automatically and immediately, in case of an elevator failure. In the project, a web application has been developed from the ground up, where an organization can follow the elevators that have the Sicada system installed. Number of trips, current floor plan, error status, and a number of other flags can be monitored remotely and in case of emergency, automatic emails are sent to the service organization with full information for efficient service management.

Planned approach and implementation

S: t Eriks Hiss AB and ManKan Hiss AB again participate as future customers for the product and through an agile development methodology, the technical solution will be validated and a working software developed. The development methodology has worked well, despite the fact that the companies are very operational. Efficient, short feedback meetings have been alternated with intensive development until the presentation of the completed software platform. The product is expected to be further developed for all future controllers installed by S:t Eriks Hiss, and future customers.
