Purpose and goal
The aim is to study pilot support for interaction with unmanned aircraft. The goal is to define, realize and evaluate a prototype in a simulator study. The study aims to support a future where pilots is to coordinate and control autonomous aircraft. The pilot is to control these systems at a high level, for example by setting objective and coordinating plans. The pilot should understand the limits and benefits of the unmanned aircraft and coordinate intentions quickly and efficiently.
Expected effects and result
Results are expected to be tested in a valid environment, in a simulator (a human-in-the-loop study). This includes the focus areas of overall performance and intelligent systems. It is expected that the results of the research on human-AI collaboration will be disseminated through publications in peer-reviewed journals/conferences.
Planned approach and implementation
The project builds on theoretical progress from a previous project, which resulted in a licentiate thesis. In this project, resulting in a PhD thesis, we will assess a self-explanatory AI/Automation system. It will be possible to spread results to related areas of use such as marine applications and rescue operations.
