Important results from the project

In the project, we have developed production tools, worked with process parameters and manufactured a bio-based RTF packaging for evaluation of market potential and environmental benefit. During production tests, we have gathered experience of how the forming process varies over time and which parameters can be limiting in larger series. The work has resulted in us also defining improvement potentials. Developed packaging has been improved but is not completely ready for series production. Measures to reduce process variations more are required for efficient production.

Expected long term effects

The paper packaging has been improved in terms of shape and strength. New tool was designed with identified improvements from project step 1, but new challenges have also been identified in this step 2. The cycle time to produce a part has been reduced. Results obtained are that we know how we can get a more stable production process and how we can reduce wear and tear on the shaped fiber packaging and on the tool. To implement improvements, an update of the production equipment from this project is required. The work with the packing solution will continue after this project ends.

Approach and implementation

The Partners who worked in the project are Blue Ocean Closures AB, which during the implementation of the project was spun off from Exonera AB and BillerudKorsnäs AB, Verktygsfirman BE-MÅ AB and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. The various skills of the actors have been used. In the project, a tool for manufacturing packaging was designed with experience from the hypothesis testing project stage 1. Production tests and production of packaging for evaluation by customers were carried out. Improvements that can be implemented in next-generation tools have been identified.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
