Measurement is central to systematic improvement. This project has dealt with a new type of measurement for product development. The project´s goal was to increase awareness of the resources needed to manage product development projects proactively by measuring, analyzing and acting on weekly data on success factors. The project has developed a tool supporting real time measurement and analysis of success factors for product development projects and enables data driven continuous improvement.
Expected long term effects
The project has contributed with novel knowledge on measurement and also developed two platforms, an experimental for data analysis and a commercial for measurement and data-driven improvement. Six companies has participated and contributed to this project. The project has had direct impact on their development projects and also strategic improvement initiatives. The project resulted in a measurement and analytics platform and a spinn-off - Prindit AB which has engaged 7000 users in 14 countries.
Approach and implementation
The project has been a collaboration between two research partners and six companies. The work was organized into five work packages, each of which involved various studies, both quantitative and qualitative. The companies contributed in various ways in these studies. Results have been developed and evaluated empirically using an experimental platform for data analysis and have also been published scientifically. The project has, despite several changes including reorganizations, accomplished outstanding results.
