Important results from the project

Focus for Printed Electronics Arena (PEA) Innovationskluster is to commercialize printed electronics together with Swedish companies by running bilateral development projects based on the unique expertise and equipment offered within PEA. The project goals of sales of 16 MSEK and 40 assignments have been achieved and exceeded. During the project period, 78 assignments were completed with a total turnover of 21 MSEK. Printed Electronics Arena has established itself as a well recognized brand and innovation environment for research and development in Sweden and internationally.

Expected long term effects

The direct results from the project are the completed development projects for Swedish companies. Effects that PEA directly or indirectly contributed to are new products for Swedish companies, the establishment of foreign companies in Sweden and growth in existing Swedish companies. The turnover in 6 newly started companies that have used PEA is 10 times greater than PEA´s annual budget. Additionally, new companies are starting and expanding. An indirect effect of the PEA innovation cluster is that the industrial accelerator HOPE is being established to support growth in the field.

Approach and implementation

The PEA innovation cluster has been run as a project at RISE. The project has had a project manager and was staffed by unit manager, business developers, sales personnel and laboratory staff. The project has had a steering group with external members, including a representative of the Smartare Elektroniksystem board, that actively contributed to the project´s successful implementation. There has been regular reporting to and valuable dialogue with SES board. The Covid-19 pandemic created unexpected challenges causing necessary changes that were well handled.
