Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to participate in research within an international consortium (IPSERC) based at Yale that studies epilepsy after stroke - one of the most common forms of epilepsy. The grant has been used for travel to the USA and participation in joint projects, one of which aims to collect patients´ and relatives´ experiences of epilepsy after stroke. The study will identify challenges people with epilepsy after stroke face in different countries. IPSERC is also working on an international grant application to create a large database on poststroke epilepsy.
Expected long term effects
We have participated in IPSERC meetings, carried out a research visit at Yale and prepared a joint project where the University of Gothenburg is the main site, but other IPSERC centers participate. The project should establish us as an IPSERC partner and qualify us for participation in future collaborative IPSERC projects. Two applications have been submitted for further funding: IPSERC workshop: Finding significant outcomes in poststroke epilepsy research AES AES infrastructure award. IPSERC
Approach and implementation
We have largely followed the planned project plan. Visits to the main IPSERC center as well as meetings with lawyers about regulatory aspects regarding sharing Swedish data have been conducted. The project time was extended so that a longer research stay was possible, but that was crucial in allowing in-depth discussion both on the joint smaller project and future NIH grant application. We have so far participated in two smaller IPSERC grants applications to the American epilepsy society, one for an IPSERC workshop and one for infrastructure (establishing a joint database at Yale).
