Preparation for Project P17 (High Speed Fuel Cell Vessel)

Reference number
Coordinator Jernkontoret - Jernkontoret, STOCKHOLM
Funding from Vinnova SEK 1 305 440
Project duration December 2018 - December 2019
Status Completed
Venture The strategic innovation programme for Metallic material

Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project was to support the development of a unique demonstrator P17, a hydrogen-powered high performance vessel in which advanced steel from several different Swedish producers is included through preparatory build-up of knowledge and know-how. The purpose has been fulfilled to the greatest extent. Most of the technical targets have been achieved, but some fine tuning remains before the technology can be put into use in the demonstrator. The partners have gained valuable experience on value chain collaboration.

Expected results and effects

From a technical perspective, the direct effect of this supporting project is that much less work remains to be done before the new, more advanced steels can be used in the demonstrator P17. A expected effect from the development of P17 is a vessel with much longer service life, higher performance and lower environmental impact. The collaboration within the project and the future development is also a successful concept where several Swedish companies have a created value chain that benefit all industrial partners.

Planned approach and implementation

The work in the project has been performed in five work packages and the main focus have been research questions of a technical nature. The work within those work packages has been done in collaboration with SSY and one or more of the partners. The work has been performed according to the plan although it has required a longer time than expected. Due to the delay the experimental study of organic fouling in a maritime environment (a part of work package 3) has been postponed (and replaced with a literature study within the project).

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
