Prefabricated concrete-timber composite floor

Important results from the project

Properties, technical and economic, in prefabricated floor slabs consisting of thin concrete plates, timber and cross-laminated timber have been evaluated. The technical properties has shown out to be very good and the system has, after further development, a possibility to compete with traditional construction of residential buildings. The system also gives possibilities to replace a large amount of concrete as a structural material with biobased materials.

Expected long term effects

The technical properties has shown out to be very good and there is interest in further development of systems (not only floor slabs) in the companies. Composite structures consisting of timber and concrete is of special interest to Heda and the company will continue the research in this area. Fristad Bygg are specialised in cross-laminated timber so there are possibilities for future projects together.

Approach and implementation

To have a university with experience of research has been a strength in the project and the fact that student have written reports in the project as bachelor/master thesis has worked out well as a system for documentation and also to reach out with the experiences and knowledge in the organisations.
