Important results from the project

The study was initiated to investigate the factors necessary to achieve effective and meaningful partnership between patients and industry, academia and the public sector through the development of a matching service. The study achieved its goals of examining similar iniatives, opportunities and risks, desired functionality and the willingness and ability to pay for such a service. Insights from the study contribute to further development of patient involvement within life science.

Expected long term effects

The study involved representatives from all life science sectors - patients, industry, academia and the public sector - around the issue of patient involvement. The great interest in participating reflects strong engagement and positive attitudes regarding early and systematic patient involvement. New insights around the lack of payment ability and willingness, along with risks and obstacles, which were identified point to important new questions requiring further investigation.

Approach and implementation

The studies was conducted through workshops and dialog from the whole of the life science ecosystem, including representatives from patients, civil society, industry, academia, national authorities, regions and municipalities. Questions were posed to a strategic reference group consisting of key stakeholders and later to a wider reference group consisting of over 35 people over the course of two meetings. Two extensions were required to recruit key stakeholders and to distill insights.
