Purpose and goal

This project explores how public transport can strengthen its role as a guarantor of socially sustainable accessibility through a policy lab. The goal of the lab is to test new methods to make social consequences of public transport planning visible. The project is led by VTI in collaboration with the Transport Administration at Region Stockholm, the Swedish Transport Administration and Huddinge, Haninge and Botkyrka municipality.

Expected effects and result

The project generates knowledge about social sustainability linked to the place we are investigating and about the policy lab as a context for knowledge production and collaboration. The project will carry out four workshops. Between each workshop we will gather new knowledge and/or analyze knowledge from the previous workshop/s. Lessons learned will be compiled in a public report with concrete proposals. In an open seminar where we will discuss results and applicability beyond the project.

Planned approach and implementation

The policy lab is centered around a workshop series where results from a parallel work on exploring and applying methods to strengthen social sustainability are explored based on the question of what the role of public transport as a guarantor of socially sustainable accessibility can entail. In parallel, research-based deep dives are conducted based on the needs of the participating organizations by researchers at VTI and expertise at the Swedish Transport Administration.
