Project duration November 2013 - June 2014
Status Completed

Purpose and goal

The aim was to develop a new model of Science Park that might improve the innovation capacity of regional entrepreneurs and public competence environments by initiating collaborations between these and relevant scientific institutions. Such a model has been developed after thorough discussions with the stakeholders. Thus, the main objective has been achieved, and hopefully Academy North Science Park will be established shortly under the governance of our municipality federation.

Results and expected effects

Our model of Science Park has been created in a close dialogue with the stakeholders and is hence firmly grounded among the regional entrepreneurs and public competence environments, our municipalities, and several universities. During the planning process a number of potential collaborative topics have been identified, possibly resulting in interesting innovations in the close future. Within the next year our aim is to initiate 2-3 of these collaborations projects.

Approach and implementation

The planning phase has been focused on identifying specific needs of innovation support among our regional entrepreneurs and public competence environments, and on initiation collaborations with universities and other scientific institutions. Since our region lacks scientific institutions particular efforts have been made to extend our scientific network. Our initiative has met with approval at management level at several universities, e.g. the Universities of Umeå, Luleå, Lund, Örebro, Tromsø, Mid Sweden, Linnaeus University and University of the Highlands & Islands.
