Reference number
Coordinator Karolinska Institutet
Funding from Vinnova SEK 89 500
Project duration August 2024 - February 2025
Status Completed
Venture Global cooperation 2024

Important results from the project

The project resulted in the establishment of a pilot support group. The opportunity to work in pilot form before deciding on a formal establishment created a learning forum for knowledge exchange based on the members´ respective areas of expertise and for discussions on the purpose, working methods and composition of the group. The project also contributed to the parallel development of a risk assessment checklist to support the group´s discussions on concrete cases.

Expected long term effects

Based on lessons learned from the project, it is proposed that an advisory body for responsible internationalization be established to support KI staff in difficult trade-offs in connection with international collaboration projects. The advisory body will serve as a forum for knowledge exchange and can ultimately contribute to increased awareness of potential risks of international collaboration and thus create a culture of responsible internationalization.

Approach and implementation

The project began by, after anchoring with the executive group at KI, putting together the group that had seven meetings, sometimes attended by external experts. During the meetings, the group´s working methods and functions were discussed. The group´s ability to reflect on difficult trade-offs in connection with international projects was tested with real and fictitious cases. Parts of the group participated in a study visit to TU-Delft with two other Swedish higher education institutions.
