Important results from the project
A preliminary study has been conducted in two Cases; Test bed and Infrastructure for Forest and Environmental Data and Geodata and Sensor support for Forestry Machines. The preliminary study was conducted to clarify the prerequisites for the use of a test bed for forest and environmental data to test new data sets, new sensors and new technologies. The conclusion from the preliminary study is that an application for full-scale test bed projects won´t be submitted. Open and free data is expected to provide greater data-driven innovation than a test bed with data charges.
Expected long term effects
During the preliminary study the Swedish Forest Agency found new methods to achieve the desired results without the use of a test bed. The development of services and testing of new technologies can be achieved through a good infrastructure and easily accessible forest and environmental data. The preliminary study will therefore not result in an application for full-scale test bed project.
Approach and implementation
The preliminary study has been carried out by the Swedish Forest Agency´s project group together with partners. The Project Group has met 15 times. The project work has been carried out in a structured way through investigations and discussions to develop possible concepts for a full-scale test bed projects. Reports have been submitted three times to the steering and reference group. The preliminary study was necessary to determine whether test beds would give the desired results before proceeding with applications for full-scale test bed projects.
