Open data on eating habits

Purpose and goal

The aim of the project is to use a web service to make data available from two of the National Food Agencys surveys on food habits in Sweden, Riksmaten children 2003 and Riksmaten adult 2010-11. Better conditions are created for scientists, food safety agencies and other stakeholders to use these data in their various research projects in the field of food and health, thus contributing to better public health. The dataset is described according to DCAT-AP to be easier to understand and easier to find.

Expected results and effects

By making these data on food habits easily available to researchers and authorities, more analysis of food habits could be performed in a simpler way, and this can contribute to improving public health in Sweden. The data can be used as a basis for legislation, development of new dietary guidelines, calculate the exposure to toxic substances, study the importance of diet for health and disease or to study the consequences of consumption of various foods for the climate and the environment.

Planned approach and implementation

An inventory was made of the surveys on food consumption and food habits that is possible to make available, and the data quality was assured. Further was the dataset described, websites published and a web service developed.
