Purpose and goal

The research project aims to continuously follow and analyze a number of open innovation projects and document how they develop, as well as to generate increased knowledge about how open innovation can be implemented in practice. The project is mainly research-oriented, with the intention of generating academic knowledge and spreading it through established research channels. The project will also constructively contribute to the Vinnova program´s reports to the Ministry of Industry.

Expected results and effects

Interviews and meetings give participants the opportunity for critical reflection. Workshops and seminars are used to discuss the project’s analyzes and conclusions. Scientifically, the study contributes to the following research fields: (1) Studies of open innovation as management concept and practice, as well as (2) studies of how management concepts are implemented in different industries. Papers will be published in good scientific journals within innovation management and organization studies.

Planned approach and implementation

The project is based on a qualitative methodology in which interviews, workshops, text analyzes and observations form the basis of the empirical material. The project also includes an interactive research methodology in which the participating organizations´ representatives actively are involved in formulating research questions and to emphasize practical issues relevant to the study.
