OMOP 4 SWEDEN (preparation project)

Reference number
Coordinator Passion 2 Improve Sverige AB
Funding from Vinnova SEK 500 000
Project duration August 2025 - December 2025
Status Ongoing
Venture SWElife, strategic project

Purpose and goal

Improve key conditions for accelerating the use of the international standard OMOP in Sweden. The project will: 1) Form a multi-helix consortium of actors engaged for a multi-year collaboration 2) Build an OMOP case for Sweden (target groups, use-cases, needs), and clarify OMOP´s value for the Swedish health data ecosystem 3) Capture international/national expertise, experiences, best practices, and connect them to local initiatives, functions and regulations

Expected effects and result

At the end of the project, we will have a better picture of who wants, should and can implement OMOP in Sweden, and why these and other relevant target groups, and Sweden as a whole, should implement OMOP. Sweden´s OMOP node should be in place or planned. We will have captured valuable experiences, best practices, solutions and advice from OMOP experts and users in the world and locally. The conditions for developing an acceleration plan for increased use of OMOP in Sweden have improved.

Planned approach and implementation

The project has three working groups with clear deliverables. An experienced advisory panel has been created to provide insights and guidance. Key stakeholders and target groups will be attracted to the initiative and its vision through active networking, communication, events and meetings. Experiences from users and experts will be captured through literature studies, interviews and a survey. OMOP´s value proposition to target groups and Sweden as a nation will be documented by OMOP expertise
