Call Data lab and data factory as a national resource in 2021

Purpose and goal

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The data factory´s overall objective is to increase the rate of innovation in the Blue Economy by enabling new uses of data from the sea. We perceive that the rate of innovation has really increased in the Blue Economy and that there is a great focus on data and the sharing of data. Undoubtedly, this is not solely thanks to ODF, but we have contributed by being a national gathering place where both opportunities and challenges are highlighted.

Expected results and effects

** Denna text är maskinöversatt ** The technical area where ODF has been most successful is in the analysis of underwater images using machine learning. We expect that this work in 2024 will result in the launch of an infrastructure (SUBSIM) for the management and analysis of underwater images. ODF has been absolutely instrumental for the establishment of the long-term program Co-Creating Better Blue (C2B2), which aims to create a sustainable blue economy for Sweden. C2B2 has an even broader partnership than ODF, with stakeholders from all over Sweden and all important maritime sectors.

Planned approach and implementation

The parties have jointly defined objectives and implemented a series of three short mini- project, which we have named innovation cycles. The cycles have focused on data availability, citizen science and do-it-yourself instruments for measurements in the ocean. In addition to these innovation cycles, ODF has maintained and developed its role as Sweden´s node, arena and gathering place for innovative work with marine data. Several authorities (with missions in the marine domain) have in ODF found a network for cooperation around digitalisation and advanced data processing.
