Purpose and goal

Ocean Data Factory Sweden (ODF) makes it possible for Sweden to be a global leader for sustainability and innovation in the Blue Economy, and thus contributes to the UN decade for ocean for sustainable development 2021-2030. Our overall objective is to increase the pace of innovation in the Blue Economy by enabling new usages of data from the sea. ODF is both an established and an open arena for cooperation between industry, academia and authorities. We constantly welcome new actors into our work.

Expected results and effects

ODF is Sweden´s national data lab for marine data, we are an established collaboration between parties from industry, academia and institutes / public authority. We bring together domain experts, data scientists and innovation experts. ODF conducts strategic work and tackles concrete challenges with marine data. The challenges have included making forecasts for invasive species, machine interpretation of large amounts of underwater images and video, and creating useful data flows from large numbers of volunteers.

Planned approach and implementation

At a high pace, we define challenges and develop solutions, with data from the ocean and artificial intelligence. Our main activities are conducted in innovation cycles of about 6 months. Work package 1. Management and external communication. Work package 2. Continuous evaluation and innovation. Work package 3. Data sources and ethical, legal aspects. Work package 4.
