Purpose and goal
The goal project had three parts: 1. Convert our LCA data to the DCAT-AP format. 2. Hold an open data conference. 3. Create a wiki-like forum for ethical data. In regards to part 1, our work has gone as expected. We have continued to develop our LCA database by incorporating MRIO data and converting it all to DCAT-AP. In regards to part 2, we decided to instead present our open data platform during an event in Silicon Valley in August. In regards to part 3, our platform is available on data.getnormative.com. We expect to open up the platform to the public in connection with the event mentioned above.
Results and expected effects
Expected effects was to ´contribute to sustainable decision-making by making our LCA database accessible and thus provide consumers and businesses with the tools to make more sustainable decisions´ We can already see these effects come into force. We have presented our platform to several organizations interested in using it. Some of the organizations we discussed our platform as well as the benefits of open data with are Emmaus International, which represents over 300 Emmaus groups around the world, Systembolaget and the University of Oxford´s Future of Food Institute.
Approach and implementation
Cleaning and citing our database took longer than expected since the data came from several different sources, which means it had to be normalized. To add the DCAT-AP descriptions, building the platform, and writing our API went more rapidly than we had expected, although the work started later than planned. What data conference is concerned, we decided instead to work with an event in Silicon Valley in August. The reason is mainly that it was difficult for us alone to find speakers of high caliber and this way it will also be easier to present our project to stakeholders of major importance.
