Purpose and goal

The aim was to contribute to more inclusive urban development. The goal of the pre-study was to identify where and how norms act in visualization work in urban development processes, identify needs for norm-critical methods, and establish a for implementation. The pre-study has identified two needs that are the basis for a possible implementation project; firstly, the integration of support tools for norm-aware visualization, and secondly, integration of visually based methods and roles for norm critical analysis in dialogue processes.

Expected results and effects

The project resulted in a deeper understanding of how norms play a role in visualization in urban development, and the role visualization can play in contributing to a greater awareness of norms in urban development. Thus the results matched what was expected of the pre-study. One effect is that a group of different actors have developed a common understanding of the problem. Ultimately, we hope that an implementation project will contribute to effects in the form of a more inclusive urban development process in Gothenburg, and also spread to other cities.

Planned approach and implementation

Based on a review of typical visualizations in urban development, literature searches, and interviews with key persons, the reasearchers created a background material. Two workshops with the involved actors were conducted. The first workshop focused on formulating a common description of the problem and formulate possible ways forward, the second workshop focused on identifying a potential implementation project. The material from workshops and interviews are the basis for applying for implementation projects.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
