Purpose and goal
In 2026 Sweden will embark on an exciting new quantum initiative, NordicQCI. The project will build quantum communication infrastructure (QCI) connecting Sweden and our neighbouring countries Finland and Estonia.
Expected effects and result
Cross-border quantum data security will be guaranteed using both undersea optical fiber cables and quantum-secure satellite links. EuroQCI ultimately aims to provide secure QCI spanning the whole EU, including its overseas territories.
Planned approach and implementation
Swedish Partners in the NordicQCI are RISE Research Institutes of Sweden (coordinator), Ericsson, Stockholm University, KTH and Linköping University. The NordicQCI project is awarded through the CEF Digital EuroQCI program, with cofunding through Vinnova and the program Avancerad Digitalisering.
