Important results from the project
The project´s objective is to 1) verify the hypothesis that it is possible to define a bio-based and non-toxic impregnation oil that gives wood a long-term protection against rot fungi, 2) to achieve such a definition and 3) to make a basic analysis of the market viability of a wood material treated according to the definition developed. The project has been able to deliver all of these objective.
Expected long term effects
The market segment that the project is aimed at, industrial infrastructure made in wood, today stands without alternatives that are both non-toxic and bio-based and that can also be produced in a repeatable and scalable way. The project has proven that it is possible to develop such an alternative. It is highly likely that a prototype based on the results of the project will go straight into sharp tests with at least one leading player in this segment. A finished product can be the first bio-based and non-toxic wood material for a majority of heavy infrastructure owners.
Approach and implementation
The project has been set up in five work packages where packages one to three are both technical and practical and included several laboratory experiments and technical and chemical analyzes, while package four is theoretical and based on fact collection and interviews. The project has been run by Linjonwood in collaboration with RISE. These two parties have complemented each other well both professionally and in experience and domain knowledge, which has made it possible for the project to be carried out in a both effective and creative way.
