Important results from the project

The project´s objective was to create lab and full-scale prototypes of wood products, environmentally friendly and bio-based rot protected, scientifically tested under realistic conditions and with an environmentally and market realistic life cycle for a finished product. The project has achieved this objective.

Expected long term effects

The market segment targeted by the project, industrial wooden infrastructure in general and retaining walls and railways in particular, is without non-toxic, bio-based and scalable alternatives. The project has created an environmentally, technically and financially realistic prototype of such an alternative. This prototype can go directly into product tests with at least one leading stake-holder in the relevant segment. A finished product may be the first bio-based and non-toxic wood material for several heavy infrastructure owners.

Approach and implementation

The project has been laid out in six work packages where AP1-3 were laboratory-heavy with chemical analyzes and rot protection analyses, AP4 focused on prototype manufacturing, AP5 on product life cycle, market and environmental aspects and AP6 being overall project coordination. The project consortium consisted of product developers and end-users from the industry collaborating with research institutes with cutting-edge expertise. The close collaboration between practical and theoretical knowledge has been the key to the successful implementation of the project.

The project description has been provided by the project members themselves and the text has not been looked at by our editors.
