Important results from the project
The project has aimed to investigate the effects of overall trends in mobility and transportation, such as large-scale electrification, autonomous vehicles and sharing economy from an urban planning perspective. A significant part of the project has been to test methods that can contribute to Swedish municipalities and cities´ work to meet future needs for mobility, as well as give recommendations for continued work. Completed investigations have identified a number of suitable approaches within both the PBL process and the planning of electric grid that can be used in the industry.
Expected long term effects
The project has tested methods for investigating the effects of large-scale electrification, including measures targeting challenges with the electric grid´s capacity for increased loads. Furthermore, the project has tested a method for futureproofing the detailed planning process with the planned district Norra Ön in Umeå as a test bed. Overall, readiness for the partners involved to enable and utilize future mobility trends, as well as the state of knowledge regarding approaches for the industry in general, has been further developed.
Approach and implementation
WP1 has been implemented by testing the method for identifying future capacity needs, investigating opportunities for equalization of peaks and investigating demand flexibility to free capacity through, for example, tariff design. WP2 consisted of three phases - knowledge development, implementation and evaluation. Activities include future outlook, scenario planning, concept of futureproof bridges and method description. WP3 has supported other WPs by e.g. project management and communication. Each process has contained elements of iteration.
