NEWCAP-Novel and Efficient Solvents for Optimal Carbon Capture

Important results from the project

The project achieved its main objective of developing a strong international consortium and preparing a Horizon Europe proposal on novel CO2 capture technologies. Eighteen partners from research, industry, and technology sectors collaborated to define the concept, research plan, and impact. The project also strengthened cooperation between academia and industry and created new partnerships across Europe.

Expected long term effects

The project established a strong European collaboration platform for next-generation CO2 capture technologies. The networks and shared research vision developed during the project are expected to enable future joint projects and strengthen European cooperation. In the long term, the work may contribute to the development of more energy-efficient and cost-effective CO₂ capture solutions for energy-intensive industries.

Approach and implementation

The project was coordinated by RISE and implemented through close collaboration among 18 partners from research organisations, universities, technology developers, and industry. The work was organised through regular meetings, workshops, and collaborative proposal writing. Partners jointly developed the technical concept, research structure, and impact strategy for the Horizon Europe proposal submitted to HORIZON-CL5-2026-02-D3-24 on the development of novel CO₂ capture technologies.
