New unique speed and distance measurement sensor for railway vehicles

Important results from the project

Measuring speed and distance of rail vehicles is becoming increasingly difficult. Available solutions suffer from different shortcomings and do not operate optimally under certain conditions, typically snow, ice, water, slab track (concrete) or in tunnels. Stockholmskonsulterna has in collaboration with industrial partners identified a technical solution based on wide-band microwave technology, which has potential to provide reliable and robust measurements.

Expected long term effects

The Verificationproject has in collaboration with stakeholders confirmed that there is a clear market demand, and that the proposed technical solution has potential to achieve the identified set of requirements.

Approach and implementation

The Verification project delivered good progress. Achieved results underpins and confirms the analyzes and assumptions made prior to the Verification project.
