Important results from the project
The project´s goal to develop two new platforms for communication between printed electronics and mobile phones has been reached. Proof-of-concept for communication with capacitive coupling through the body from a printed label to a mobile phone has been demonstrated with several demonstrators. The technology has in this way taken a big step closer to commercialization. Communication from printed sensor labels to a mobile phone using dynamic QR codes has been shown in demonstrators. Both concepts have been tested in a real environment by real users.
Expected long term effects
For capacitive coupling a clear application and market are identified. This could be the first time an application uses capacitive coupling on a larger scale. Development of hardware and software opens the possibility for more applications. A clear business opportunity is identified with both a Swedish and European market. The development of the concept continues and an application for project grants under UDI steg 3 will be submitted.
Approach and implementation
The project has contained the following main stages: 1.Specification, Concept development and Evaluation 2.Technology development 3.Integration 4.Demonstrator fabrication and evaluation 5. Production and business potential The new concepts were first tested in a real environment by the right users. Technology development has been based on results from those tests and resulted in a product specification. Integration of the different parts have been made and the demonstrators were manufactured for evaluation by end users.
