Important results from the project
We have evaluated existing methods and equipment for skin transplants and developed a working prototype for a new surgical method that, in preliminary testes, indicates that it will solve the shortcomings we identified in current equipment. In the next step, the prototype will be clinically tested for possible further commercialization
Expected long term effects
The project aimed to significantly shorten the operation time for this type of surgery by combining new surgical technique with new surgical knife technology. During the project we have positive indications that the surgical technique makes it possible to cover larger areas with the same transplanted skin piece and that it reduces healing time, scarring and risk of infection. We believe that the developed prototype will show similar results in upcoming clinical trials.
Approach and implementation
The project consisted of two phases. The first phase included developing a prototype of a new operating knife. In the second phase, the knife has been tested on skin models to optimize performance and cutting properties. The next step is animal testing before the prototype is included in clinical trials to ensure that it delivers in line with expectation
