Important results from the project
The project is motivated by the need to produce more and better food that caters to an increased access to foods that have health benefits, which have less negative impact on the environment and which also brings economic benefits to all providers in the food chain. Individual agents have difficulty producing new foods because each link in the food chain has its challenges. The project has mobilized actors and links including experimental cultivation, research and production of raw materials for food processing, distribution, market and consumption.
Expected long term effects
The project aims to lay the foundations for a development platform and a food chain that continuously delivers new foods. The project has succeeded in establishing an environment that in a first stage delivers five new Swedish-produced foods. Participants included in the chain may vary over time depending on what food experiments and market studies access. The road to the market depends on what the challenges are. More producers, research, food companies, etc. will be involved as needed during the project form B.
Approach and implementation
The project management runs experiments and prepare proposals for new products, engage partners and negotiate contracts etc. Scientists and food manufacturers evaluates food crop suitability and nutritional value and market potential and the challenges that the project has to solve in order to be a successful new product. Collaboration with representatives of consumers and groups with specific requirements regarding food safety results in the decision whether to produce the novel food. Agreements are made between crop producers, food producers and market.
