Important results from the project
The goal of developing new innovative technology for performance-enhancing bleaching was not achieved. With the great knowledge acquired about the specific bleaching chemistry around combined oxygen/hydrogen peroxide steps, new ideas were developed about how this work can continue. A pilot study has been carried out at an external laboratory, but no test run by industrial partners could be performed.
Expected long term effects
The desired outcomes expected in the initial report could not be achieved. Improved brightness could not be achieved. In pure peroxide bleaching, the brightness could be slightly improved, but when oxygen was introduced, the method developed failed. The ambitions of reducing the cost of bleaching, reducing energy consumption, reducing COD, reducing sales tendency, better fiber yield and better driveability could not be investigated because they are connected to testing the product in full-scale run at a customer.
Approach and implementation
The execution described in the startup report has been followed, but not completed. New ideas and product proposals have been developed and some success has been achieved, but the project only reached testing in a pressurized reactor. With access to more experiments in pressurized reactor, the project could have come further.
