Important results from the project
The project supported mining municipalities in their work to ensure that mining and mineral projects contribute to positive social development and welfare. And a network of relevant mining municipalities was created to facilitate exchange of experience. The project also contributed to highlighting the importance of the permit process for mining and mineral projects better taking into account the socio-economic sustainability aspect. In the long run, this should mean an improved evaluation of projects, and a strengthened social acceptance of the mining and mineral sector.
Expected long term effects
The project created a network of mining municipalities that provide better opportunities for the exchange of experience and expertise.. This should be able to contribute to a more positive social development and welfare. The project has also contributed to highlighting the importance of the permit process for mining and mineral projects better taking into account the socio-economic sustainability aspect. In the long run, this can mean an improved evaluation of project, as well as a strengthened understanding and social acceptance of the mining and mineral sector.
Approach and implementation
A number of activities were carried out to establish the network, as well as to exchange knowledge and experiences. The activities included: Startup Webinar; Webinar about the role of mining municipalities, taxation and planning work; The establishment of a database for the project; Seminar in Skellefteå and study visit at Rönnskär with a focus on permit processes; Interviews and mini-seminars with municipal representatives; Participation in the Almedal week; Seminars & study visits at relevant locations in Bergslagen; Final seminar for sharing project results.
