Important results from the project

The National Forest Data Lab is a data factory, lab environment and a meeting place for innovation and collaboration around forestry data. The goal for this period was to reach more stakeholders and promote collaboration with a focus on AI applications, climate adaptation and forest damage. Products and solutions have been developed and utilized by external actors, especially start-up companies, but also by established practitioners who benefit from the data and services that the lab provides.

Expected long term effects

The National Forest Data Lab has contributed to: Expanding connections and increasing collaboration between more government agencies, research institutes, forestry companies, and service providers. Making more stakeholders aware of the National Forest Data Lab and utilizing data and services from the lab in innovations related to forest damage and climate adaptation. Enhancing capabilities in AI environments and AI applications.

Approach and implementation

The National Forest Data Lab is operated by the Swedish Forest Agency and the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in close collaboration with external stakeholders. To promote collaboration and communication the lab has engaged in social media, existing networks and arranged webinars. Investments in AI analysis capacity and data infrastructure have allowed the lab to successfully share new data, models and knowledge that can be utilized by private entities in their systems and services.
