Purpose and goal

The National Forest Data Lab has quickly been established as an important part of the forest sector´s eco system for datadriven innovation. The lab provides infrastructure for data and test environment for AI as well as methods, tools and knowledge used by a large number of actors for decisions and services. The forest data lab has the opportunity to respond to a number of concrete needs from many categories of users and offers the conditions for enabling digitalisation and innovation in the forest sector on a broad front.

Expected results and effects

The National Forest Data Lab has contributed to: - strengthen collaboration between authorities, research institutes, forest companies, service providers and others in innovation of datadriven solutions. - that more actors have knowledge of, and are involved in, using forest data in innovation projects. - increase the number of innovations based on forest data and AI applications.

Planned approach and implementation

The forest data lab has had a conscious focus on delivering benefits through practical applications. The lab has succeeded in this, which means that the lab is now seen as an "enabler" for taking ideas and prototypes to solutions that deliver benefits in the forest sector. The lab has collaborated with other parties in the sector during the development of solutions, which proved to be a success factor. Having the needs owner as a setter of requirements and that they are involved in presenting the finished solution at, for example, a webinar is a successful concept.
