Purpose and goal

The Vinnmer fellowship supported the development of Dr. Baranello to become a successful leader. Thanks to increased visibility at a national and international level, Dr. Baranello attracted talented scientists and set-up an interdisciplinary research group. Attendance to leadership courses helped her becoming a successful mentor. The collaboration with the NIH partner has promoted scientific exchange and generated several publications. Finally, she was able to design several new studies and research grant proposals based on work during the Vinnmer fellowship period.

Expected results and effects

The targeting strategy developed during the Vinnmer fellowship period has been employed into pre-clinical studies and pharmaceutical companies have been approached to expand the findings towards further trials. Dr. Baranello has contacted several programs with focus on validate and commercialize her research and she is a new member of the KI Cancer network that aims to bridge academia and industry. The Vinnmer fellowship has also given Dr. Baranello the possibility to connect KI and NIH scientists and help to assure long term collaboration even after completion of this project.

Planned approach and implementation

The Vinnmer fellowship gave freedom and independence to advance Dr. Baranello in her scientific area. Not only she became a recognized leader in her field, but because of the opportunities to communicate with NIH and KI scientists, she established new interactions with scientific leaders, which will help propel her scientific career, increase her chances of publishing well and attracting new funding. With the prospective to apply for Associate Professorship positions in 4 years, this network of experts will help seeking for new opportunities for PIs in their middle career stage.
