Important results from the project

Yes. The project has explored how local populations can be involved in industrial establishment and how permit processes can be conducted more inclusively. Relevant research on social sustainability in industrial establishment and the concept of Social License to Operate has been summarized. The project has stimulated dialogue between industry and other societal actors in a collaborative arena and gathered relevant lessons for both increased social sustainability and future innovation.

Expected long term effects

The project resulted in multiple actionable recommendations for how stakeholders in industrial establishments can work with social sustainability, which could both streamline permit processes and increase inclusion and meaning-making. Lessons learned in the project will be carried forward by project participants and the material produced in the project can be used for continued discussion and innovation.

Approach and implementation

The project delivered: 1. A study on Social License to Operate and social sustainability in industrial establishments, authored by prominent researchers and environmental permit specialists. 2. An interactive collaboration arena in Skellefteå with a breadth of stakeholders in industrial establishments, to enable networking and innovative discussion on challenges and opportunities. 3. A final report summarized takeaways from 1 and 2 above and a webinar was hosted for continued discussion.
