Important results from the project

Lanterna´s aim and objective to better understand the use of fluorescent building blocks for labeling RNA has been met during the course of the project. Our technology for metabolic labeling of RNA has moved closer to practical application as we now better understand the kinetics and efficiency of labeling. Lanterna´s ability to produce fluorescently labeled mRNA has also been strengthened by acquiring expertise and streamlining the manufacturing process, which led us to be able to reach our first partners.

Expected long term effects

As a results of the project, we can now, with more direction, seek collaborative projects to take our development to the next step. In terms of competence, we believe we now understand better what will be required and which partners may be relevant. The strengthening of our manufacturing process also means that we can now offer more value to our future customers. Not least, we expect that our offer of fluorescently labeled mRNA will generate revenue and contact points for continued knowledge building.

Approach and implementation

The form and structure of the work has been dominated by solid and iterative laboratory work with associated analysis, but has also involved recruitment and on-boarding of new competence. We have continuously evaluated our progress and challenges to optimize our direction and, in consultation with Vinnova, have also been able to tailor our project plan during the course of the project to maximize the impact of the work.
