Purpose and goal
The purpose of Malmö Energy Lab is through cooperation between industry, public organisations and energy system operators, to ensure resilient industrial production based on a sustainable energy system in Malmö. In the project, a partnership consisting of Sustainable Business Hub, Region Skåne, E.ON, TEXEL, SYSAV, Uniper, Orion, Polypeptide, RISE, Malmö city and TePe will develop a system demonstrator with the mission (objective) "A resilient industry that contributes to a sustainable energy system in Malmö".
Expected effects and result
The project´s expected deliverables are: A plan for utilization of reserve power, solutions for uninterruptible power supply and batteries in industry. Established digital model to explore potential benefits of industry and energy systems in the harbor area in Malmö. A developed platform with industrial resilient solutions, where business models and innovations are included. An installed: - backup power solution (UPS solution). - battery solution for energy storage. - electricity production from residual flows. - quench boiler for increased electricity production.
Planned approach and implementation
The system demonstrator will be developed and implemented through mapping and analysis activities, digital modeling, collaboration and innovation, testing in a real environment and evaluation and communication. The project investigates the interaction and cooperation between industrial actors, energy system operators and public actors. Real energy storage and flexibility solutions will be tested in and by industry players with the aim of increasing the industry´s resilience and being an active party in the sustainable energy system in Malmö.
