Important results from the project
The purpose of the project was to develop a method that contributes to scale up sustainable innovative solutions in a more structured way so it becomes mainstream and thus more resource efficient leading to synergy effects, for example by collaborating and performing joint procurements. An analysis method has been developed that includes a scale-up guide and a scale-up tool. They have been spread further to be used both by the participating cities and in other municipalities throughout Sweden. The cities´ working methods and process where tools and guidance are used need to be deepened.
Expected long term effects
Principles for collaboration have been incorporated into a guidance for up-scaling and a scale-up tool to ensure the right collaboration actors are involved in pilot projects from the start and continously. The scale-up tool consists of four parts where questions are asked that are necessary to answer in order to scale-up. The potential for this work to contribute to the impact goals is assessed as large, as it is expected to lead to the cities/municipalities becoming more efficient in using the results from pilot projects. English translation of the guide and tool is under development.
Approach and implementation
The project has developed a guide and a tool to support up-scaling of sustainable solutions that are developed in pilot projects. The tool has been tested in several rounds, which has contributed to the up-scaling tool to become more user-friendly. Discussions regarding the process itself, where, when and how the guidance and the tool should be used have been held in each city. The scale-up tool, the guide for scale-up, a PODD series with four episodes on Mainstreaming Sustainability from different perspectives and presentations have been published on the project´s website.
