Important results from the project
The purpose and goal of the LIGHTer PhD network is to strengthen the education of doctors in disciplines relevant in lightweight to further enable future technological leaps, e.g. through increased collaboration, broader perspective on lightweight technologies. Already at the start of the studies, the doctoral students are introduced to LIGHTer´s network of researchers. They are given the opportunity for multi-disciplinary research collaboration. The network activities include joint courses and workshops with seminars, web-based seminars and an annual doctoral conference.
Expected long term effects
After finished project, the network consists of 142 doctoral students, of which 65 have got a PhD, which is in line with stipulated goals. Open online seminars have been given every month organized by LIGHTer PhD Network and LIGHTer Academy. The network has presented its activities at LIGHTer conferences. A workshop at Sintef/NTNU in Trondheim was held where potential Nordic cooperation was discussed. A study trip has been carried out with Austrian Energy Agency as organizer, where members of the network visited universities, institutes and companies with focus on sustainability.
Approach and implementation
The network activities include courses, workshops and seminars as well as an annual PhD student conference, coordinated with other LIGHTer activities such as the international conference. The course activities consist of both the basic course in lightweight, a number of core courses and other courses given at Swedish higher education institutions relevant in lightweight technology. To further stimulate participation, LIGHTer PhD Network offers funding for travel and accommodation for all doctoral students who complete the basic course and international workshops.
