Important results from the project
The goals of the project were to evaluate LMDp (Laser Metal Deposition with powder) as a repair method. The evaluation has been made on the basis of 3 aspects: 1. Evaluate suitable materials 2. Verify that post-processing can be done 3. Specify requirements on how coating can take place, eg around holes. The project has successfully shown that coating can take place and finishing / milling ( Objective 2) is possible and that it is possible to handle coating around holes ( Objective 3). With regard to Objective 1, further evaluation needs to take place.
Expected long term effects
The project has shown that LMDp is a suitable method for repair of products. This entails reuse of products instead of new production, which has positive effects in terms of sustainability and economy.
Approach and implementation
Material selection (3 different materials) was made by material supplier (Höganäs) 2. Coating of 3 different materials as well as evaluation and selection of materials for the final test was performed by Högskolan Väst 3. Final test (coating with LMDp) was performed by Permanova 4. Machining (Milling) and evaluation of material properties was done by Volvo GTO
