Important results from the project

Project objective: To develop specific functions in a series of prototypes, have them installed, tested and confirmed by the customer, for an upcoming industrialization. The project objective was fulfilled. New IoT, embedded electronics, with special sensors, special applications - predictive maintenance of steel pipes, e.g. condition analysis of corrosion on district heating pipes. The technology has been evaluated and prototypes installed at district heating companies in three countries.

Expected long term effects

The project is expected to contribute in the long term to sales of the system, which helps to reduce costs in district heating systems, by pinpointing pipe sections in need of maintenance, as well as detecting and locating leaks. The project is expected to contribute to new collaborations in new markets, several of which have already been established, and to draw attention and interest to additional and/or refined systems for managing pipe infrastructure.

Approach and implementation

The project has been based on knowledge and experience from previous versions of the system and prototypes, as well as information gathering from the intended target group consisting of energy and district heating companies that led to design requirements. In parallel, development of the new system began and was adapted based on the design requirements that emerged. Prototypes and final systems were continuously installed in the field to evaluate and refine function.
