Call From AI-research to innovation

Purpose and goal

The project has developed an AI-supported platform that from a descriptive text automatically identifies the related innovation landscape based on analyzes of global patent data. At the same time, the platform supports both simple visual insight into trends and the interpretation of results by identifying relevant text sections. It has contributed to a significant increase in the perceived benefit of users with low knowledge of intellectual property (entrepreneurs, SMEs, StartUps and R&D ). A major step towards democratizing access to and understanding of patent information.

Expected results and effects

By enabling more people to easily access the knowledge that is hidden in patent information, we can support a more sustainable innovation in the future. At present, more than 50% of all project that reach the prototype or patent application fail, for the reason they did not have knowledge of, or could search in patent data, a source that contains 80% of all technical knowledge. In addition, 90% of this knowledge bank is free to use. IPscreener will support better innovation, both spur faster development and collaborations, as well as minimize the risk of reinventing the wheel.

Planned approach and implementation

The project was based on three issues that were judged to be critical to solve in order to achieve the expected effects and eligibility requirements by the reference group of users. Prior to each module, working groups with expertise have been engaged to optimize development. As the various modules in the project ranged from pure AI & data analysis to UX design and interaction, it created challenges to keep the project together as well as to synchronize, collaborate and integrate produced results. This fact and the effects of Corona led to delays in the completion of the project.
