Important results from the project
Based on the sustainability perspective placed on the vehicles of the future and the prevailing crash safety requirements, this project aims to develop and optimize the importance of two important components in a battery for electric cars by applying an advanced sandwich material together with an advanced packaging system for Cylindrisk Cell in a battery module. Interaction with different competencies and compositions of physical products has created opportunities to identify shortcomings and advantages with material selection, methods, and processes.
Expected long term effects
The current project has contributed to improve the partners´ competencies and integrates two concepts in lightweight technology at a lower product cost, weight, and energy with smarter solutions at other actors. This will result in savings in time and costs and a better environmental choice for material suppliers, product owners, and end-users. It has been given better insight to enable the design to be more weight and cost-efficient and to integrate the structural parts, the housing, and the battery packs in an efficient way.
Approach and implementation
Work was divided into literature studies, interviews with external experts, computer simulations, and practical experiments. All information and knowledge produced in the project are compiled in the form of written documents, digital models, some demonstrators (physical details), and two complete demonstrators. Throughout the project, the work has been based on close communication between the parties and the transfer of data and experiences between the parts. During the project, parties´ facilities have also been visited to increase understanding of each other´s activities.
