Important results from the project

The aim of the project was to link research and innovation at universities, companies and research institutes to realize the vision of a world-leading centre for tool-integrated sensors for real-time digital optimization of industrial production processes. The objective was to create partnerships for an application to Vinnova´s call for Competence Centres in Sustainable Industry and Digital Transformation 2024. An application has been submitted with the title: Integrated Sensors and Adaptive Technology for Sustainable Products and Manufacturing.

Expected long term effects

The project has resulted in a common vision, and application to Vinnova for funding to create a world-leading competence centre for integrated sensors for digital real-time optimisation of industrial production processes. The centre has strong support from Swedish manufacturing industry and RISE is an academic partner. Smart, integrated and connected sensors form the basis for the fourth industrial revolution and enable a sustainable and competitive Swedish manufacturing industry.

Approach and implementation

The project started with joint workshops and study visits to the partner companies to create a detailed understanding of their industrial processes and needs to measure and control processes and products. This work resulted in technology roadmaps that formed the basis for the work packages proposed for the first five years of the Centre. The partnership was then expanded to include additional participants from academia, industry and research institutes to ensure that all necessary stakeholders from along the value chain participate in the centre in order to fulfil the vision.
