Purpose and goal

The purpose of the project is to conduct research on the integration of radar in mobile communication systems. The goal is to develop products towards 6G where we can strengthen Swedish industry by strengthening and improving the ecosystem within the Swedish communication and radar industry. Both military and civilian applications are of interest. The research will be validated in a real test network, built in Lund.

Expected effects and result

We expect a great understanding of how radar and mobile systems can be integrated with each other, its compromises in system dimensioning, and strengths and weaknesses towards a future product. The results will be used to steer the standardization work, 3GPP, in a favorable direction. We will also gain a good understanding of how the Swedish ecosystem in the area needs and can develop further, both at research and product level.

Planned approach and implementation

We will use the test network in Lund with existing base station sites. That is, we will conduct research in a real environment with its challenges, all in order to achieve as realistic research environment as possible. We expect to reach TRL 5-6. The test cases will be both drones and larger ground objects, such as cars, buses and trams.
